Prejudice
On page 63, Beth wants us to "... name a few specific ways we become aware of someone's prejudices."
- The way they talk (verbal and non-verbal communication)
- The way they treat others
She writes, "Haman probably made remarks and stereotyped the Jews behind their backs."
Anger
"In reference to the king, anger is seen to ... ... subside. In regards to Haman, however, anger likewise bursts into existence, but there is no specific mention of it ever subsiding." - (page 65)
Beth points out that some people never get over their anger. "They ... stay mad".
She also makes it clear that we don't want to be one of those people "... no matter how we've been provoked."
In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. - Ephesians 4:26-27 (NIV)
Time
(The following quotes are from page 66.)
"In certain specific circumstances, God allowed Israel to practice legitimate use of prescribed lots as a means of seeking His will."
"Haman's use of lots was a means of determining the "lucky day" upon which his evil enterprise would be most successful. He sought the timing of pagan gods working through the favor of omens."
But...
However it lands, God is actually allowing. God is sovereign.
The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord. - Proverbs16:33 (NIV)
God has the final say.
"No matter how meticulously man plans, any evil scheme waged against a child of God is sketched right before divine eyes on a sacred calendar. God created time, and no human can take it from Him or use it against Him. Time is significant to God ... because His children who are temporarily bound by its tenets are significant to God. Every man-scheduled date subjected upon one of His children is written, not just on a doctor's calendar, a hospital's calendar, or a trial judge's calendar. It is written on God's. For each person given one year to live, trust that time is God's alone to give."
Worth repeating:
"Trust that time is God's alone to give."
